Remarks

The Apartment is roughly 30 square meters large, and it is on the first floor of an ancient building in the centre of Sorrento. It is situated in Via S. Cesareo, on the main street of the old part of Sorrento, 50 meters (55 yards) away from the Cathedral of the town. It is suitable for 2 people, but in case the third bed can be added in the doubleroom.

This apartment is ideal for tourists because it is in the typical and most popular part of Sorrento centre (pedestrian area for almost all day long): the spot is perfect to appreciate the lively atmosphere and the nightlilfe of the town. It is sufficent a short stroll all around to admire the magnificent monuments which are nearby. It is a museum in the open air: in the surroundings You can find the Sedile Dominova(XVI c.), the only existing testimony in Campania region of the ancient seats of the Sorrento nobility; the Cloister of Saint Francis(XIV c.), ancient building with splendid pointed arches all around; the Cathedral in Romanic style and so on.

The apartment can be considered like one of the few typical houses, in bricks and stones of volcanic origin, which were very common in our area once and which have survived so far. The tufa stone (rock of volcanic origin) keeps the dwellings cool in summer and warm in winter. So, inspite of the shortage of air-conditioning, this apartment is cool in summer: anyway the house has an electric fan. In addition this particular species of rock absorbs the noises very well. So, You stay in the centre of Sorrento, actually in the most lively part, but at the same time the house is very quiet.

The apartment has an autonomous access: there is a small main door in wood, then two short flights of steps to reach the entrance door of the apartment. You enter directly the dining-room whose walls are completely covered with bricks, according to the Sorrento tradition. In the same room there is a spacious square table with the chairs. In a corner of dining-room You can find the kitchen , which is still in bricks and stones, but even so it is is very modern, large and equipped with plenty of comforts such as a gas cooker, refrigerator with freezer. In the kitchen a wide window lets plenty of light in. Obviously the kitchen is equipped with steel saucepans, cutlery, glasses, coffee machine, tin and bottle openers, washing-up liquid. The double bedroom is close to the kitchen and it has a TV Colour, two bedside tables, each one with its lampshade, and a large and spacious wardrobe. The nice bathroom has a shower. The apartment has been renovated with great care and taste according to the typical ancient Sorrento tradion. Once a lot of houses in the Sorrento Peninsula were like this, but the most part of them have been modified over the centuries.

There is a public car park 300 meters (328 yards) away.

When You stay in this apartment it is not necessary to use Your car because the bus stop is 50 meters (55 yards) away and the station for the local train is 600 metres (656 yards) away. From the apartment it is sufficient to cover on foot about 200 meters away (220 yards) towards the coastline to reach a public lift for nearest beach: a typical bathing establishment of the Sorrento area on wooden pilework.

The Cathedral, the Kiosk of S. Francis, and the public park are only a stroll away. In addition the street Via Tasso takes to the Piazza della Vittoria at 200 meters away (220 yards) where there is a terrace with a spectacular view of the Gulf of Naples, from the island of Procida to Mount Vesuvius. If you lean from the balustrade of that terrace, You will see the green-azure sea of Sorrento right below You, with its long, thin strips of beaches, coloured by lounges and umbrellas. And there are many more things to delight Your senses... the mild climate, the gentle breeze blowing from the sea. You can also enjoy a walk along the ancient main street (on the left of the terrace) leading to Marina Grande, a fishing village.
