This small town is wonderfully located over white steep cliffs and offers a fantastic view over the Bay of Naples.\u00a0Sorrento lies on a Tufa terrace and is enclosed by impressive rocks of the limestone mountains.\u00a0For 2000 years already visitors from all over the world have been attracted to Sorrento by breathtaking sunsets and fragrances of orange and lemon gardens.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The small fishing harbor of Marina Grande<\/strong> is especially beautiful in the low season, where one can sense the naturalness of Sorrento<\/a>. Several Hotels are situated right next to the shore and the gastronomy is delicious.<\/p>\n

Very good food offers\u00a0the Ristorante Bagni Delfino\u00a0(Via Marina Grande 216)<\/span> at the harbor\u00a0<\/span><\/span>with\u00a0 panoramic views.\u00a0\u00a0Another restaurant where one can dine\u00a0in a beautiful setting\u00a0is the swimming restaurant “Zi’Ntonio mare” (Via Marina Grande 180<\/span>)<\/span><\/span>. Here you can find a lot of seafood and good Antipasti. Specialties\u00a0are\u00a0\u201cScialatielli al pesce spada\u201d (self-made Pasta with Provola and fish) and \u201cRisotto alla pescatora\u201d (rice with frutti di mare).\u00a0 A panoramic view of the gulf of Naples offers the pretty hotel and restaurant La Tonnarella <\/b>(Via Capo 31 ).<\/p>\n

Sorrento and the Amalfi coast are well known for its splendid big lemons<\/h4>\n

Typical products from Sorrento are produced with these “limoni”:\u00a0Limoncello, a very tasty lemon liqueur, lemon chocolate, colorful ceramic articles with lemon motives or lemon soap.\u00a0One should also try the\u00a0tasty ice\u00a0cream\u00a0of Gelateria Raki (Via San Cesareo 48) with natural flavours<\/span><\/span>\u00a0in the small street Via S. Cesareo, the heart of Sorrento. In the characteristic historic center are a lot\u00a0of nice shops.\u00a0In addition to this there is the weekly market that takes place on Tuesdays, where one can buy real bargains.<\/p>\n

Sorrento is very popular due to its good location as starting point to all the important surrounding sights<\/h4>\n

The summit of the peninsula of Sorrento<\/a> is only about 5 km away from Capri island<\/a>, which can be easily reached from the Harbor Marina Piccola.\u00a0Also Ischia<\/a> and Procida<\/a>, of which the silhouettes can be seen on clear days, can be reached very quickly per speedboat.\u00a0Sorrento is also the terminus of the Circumvesuviana, a small train with its start in Naples<\/a>\u00a0Italy.\u00a0One can reach Pompeii and Herculaneum<\/a> by this rail in about thirty minutes and Naples<\/a> in circa one hour’s time.<\/p>\n

The good location of\u00a0the town\u00a0unfortunately also led to heavy traffic load in the narrow streets of the town.\u00a0Relaxation and silence can presently still be found in the gardens and private beaches of the hotels, the orange grove of the museum or the monastery garden. Sorrento is recommendable as a tourist destination or a starting point for sightseeing of every kind, however it is less recommendable for a pure swimming holiday.<\/p>\n
