{"id":845,"date":"2017-01-15T16:30:30","date_gmt":"2017-01-15T16:30:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.portanapoli.com\/en\/?p=845"},"modified":"2017-01-16T10:35:32","modified_gmt":"2017-01-16T10:35:32","slug":"visit-the-underground-naples","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.portanapoli.com\/en\/naples\/visit-the-underground-naples\/","title":{"rendered":"How to visit the underground of Naples"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-846 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.portanapoli.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/napoli-sott.jpg\" alt=\"Naples Underground (\u00a9 Portanapoli.com)\" width=\"199\" height=\"258\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>A\u00a0visit of\u00a0Naples\u2019 underworld is one of the\u00a0most interesting and exciting tours in the city.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>It&#8217;s possible to\u00a0see different\u00a0underground sites like the Subterranean Naples, the catacombs, the Galleria Borbonica, or\u00a0also archeological excavations.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>We tell you how to visit the underground, where are the\u00a0entrances, about guided tours and locations of Naples underworld.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>You can visit many underground sites in and around the city like different\u00a0large catacombs\u00a0(catacombs of San Gennaro, San Gaudioso and San Severo), the excavations of San Lorenzo Maggiore (Via dei Tribunali) in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.portanapoli.com\/en\/naples\/historic-centre-naples\/\">historic centre<\/a>, the Piscina Mirabilis (located in Miseno, it was the main cistern serving Naples during Roman times) and of course the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.portanapoli.com\/en\/naples\/subterranean-naples\/\">Subterranean Naples<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h4>There are two different gates that lead to the &#8220;Subterranean Naples&#8221;<\/h4>\n<p>One entrance is hidden at the Piazza San Gaetano in a small alleyway of the historic city. Tours take about 2 hours; on request, group tours. For further questions, opening hours, and to make reservations for a tour, please contact the Associazione LAES, Napoli e la Citt\u00e0 Sotterranea at the entrance at Piazza Trieste e Trento &#8211; (Bar Gambrinus),<br \/>\nor visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lanapolisotterranea.it\/\" target=\"_blank\">www.lanapolisotterranea.it<\/a><\/p>\n<h4>Galleria Borbonica &#8211; another part of the underground Naples<\/h4>\n<p>Two entrances: via Domenico Morelli 40 and Vico del Grottone 4 (100 metres away from Piazza Plebiscito).<br \/>\nOne of the entrances to the underground Bourbon tunnel (Galleria Borbonica) is\u00a0at the Park House Morelli in the Chiaia district. The contrast between modern architecture and the ancient tufa caves of the Galleria Borbonica is impressive. In the branched tunnel are cars and motorcycles from the second world war. For the Galleria Borbonica, there are standard tours, adventure tours, and caving (speleo tours) with helmet and flashlight. We did the standard tour start at the Park House Morelli.\u00a0 \u00a0After the visit of the tunnel quickly to reach the promenade and can make a nice walk by the sea.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.galleriaborbonica.com\" target=\"_blank\">www.galleriaborbonica.com<\/a><\/p>\n<h4>Archaeological excavations of San Lorenzo Maggiore<\/h4>\n<p>Those who are interested in archaeology, should make\u00a0the <strong>Scavi di San Lorenzo Maggiore<\/strong> in the heart of Naples.\u00a0Ten meters below the Earth you can see a Roman market from the fifth century AD.\u00a0It is like a journey through time in a shopping street\u00a0of the past. Regular tours are offered.
